A City of Energy and Challenges

A special segment of the 56th Festival of Documentary and Short Film in Belgrade will be “NY 6 Hours Behind”, comprising several films explaining the phenomenon of this city. The program’s name is based on the same-named documentary by Dragana Kanjevac, which will open the said program at 22h in the Cultural Center. This program will see, in the following three days, the films “City” by Vladan Nikolic, a Belgrade based director with a longstanding working experience in New York City, as well as the cycle of films of Ari Gold, one of the most interesting authors of the NY scene and member of the Festival’s jury.

The film “NY 6 Hours Behind” describes the ordeals of the people who moved to this city during the nineties and have been living between NY City and Belgrade since. It also speaks of the secret link between the two cities, as described by the participants in the project, who have chosen to live in the Big Apple, a city of incredible energy and tremendous challenges.

The film was supported by the Ministry for Diaspora of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. According to Minister Srdjan Sreckovic, this film is dedicated to young artists from Belgrade who had found theselves in New York City and who are best representing their country with their work. By supporting such a project, the Ministry for Diaspora also wanted to help people who left the country in the nineties and have them come back. The author of the film Dragana Kanjevac says that it was good that the Ministry had supported this project, since they had previously never participated in a film production. The cameraman was Jovan Milinov, the producer Natasa Milojevic, editor Obrad Popovic. Nenad Krasovac was in charge of the music and a piece used in the film was authored by Vojislav Beskovic.
