Where is the Motherland?

The projections of this year’s Festival of Documentary and Short Film started with a block of films, comprising „Father Morgana“ by young director Sinisa Vidovic, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts in Linz, the Film and Video Department. The film speaks of a group of pensioners with different backgrounds, who are meeting everyday in a park in Linz.

„The chess park was my main inspiration for the film“, Vidovic says. „Watching the people meeting every day in the park and playing chess, I was inspired to make this story, dedicated to the generation who went abroad in search of temporary employment, but remained there for life. I have tried to address to themes of both migration and integration and seeking the answer to the question where is the motherland?“

The main roles are played by professional actors such as Zijah Sokolovic and Ljubisa Lupo Grujcic, as well as naturschiks who are really meeting on daily basis in the park. „Father Morgana“ has been extended the award for Best Student Film in Salzburg and it was also shown on many other festivals. Vidovic says he is happy that the Balkan, namely regional premiere will take place on the 56th Festival of Documentary and Short Film, which he attended just once 10 years ago, for just one day, when he still didn’t knew he will be making films.
