Oded Binun author of the film “Paradise Lost”

Oded BinunArtificial Borders

One of the two authors of “Paradise Lost” Oded Binun is a guest of the Festival, which has screened his last film, which he has made with colleague Michal Bresis. In his words, the two of them met on the Faculty in Jerusalem, where they studied together and did all their projects together. “I can’t imagine doing things differently”, says Binun laughing.

The film “Paradise Lost” is a story about a man and a woman gently making love in the hotel room, but that is lost in a moment later. “It’s a story about cultural, national and religious borders. After the magnificent love making act, they get dressed and realize he is a Jew and she is a Muslim. That story was a good starting point for examining opposites. While people are naked, nothing bothers them. It is only when they get dressed that the clothes reveal them. We believe that the borders are artificial and that they are a cliché”, Binun said.

After Belgrade, the film “Paradise Lost” will be screened in Milan, Seattle, Nashville... Binun said he has applied for our festival for which he had heard earlier. “Belgrade sounded always as an exotic place to me, and it is”, Binun said on his first day. After three films they have made together, Binun and his colleagues are currently preparing a full featured film – the story of a girl looking and finding intimacy with strangers.
